Seminar Held at ISU on the Progress and Prospects of CSE in Bangladesh
2-3% of GDP growth is attributed solely to Computer Science and Engineering: VC, International Standard University
A special seminar on the progress and prospects of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program in Bangladesh was held on Sunday, December 22, at the International Standard University (ISU). The seminar featured renowned academic Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad as the keynote speaker, while the chief guest was Professor Dr. Abdul Awal Khan, Vice-Chancellor of ISU.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the relatively recent rise of CSE, stating, "At one time, there was no such thing as computers, emails, CSE, or programming. But now, CSE is present in every field. Worldwide, 2-3% of GDP growth is attributed solely to Computer Science and Engineering."
Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, a former faculty member of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and currently a professor at BRAC University, said, “To work at global companies like Google, Microsoft, or Facebook, it is not necessary to study at BUET, as long as you have a clear goal.” He further stressed that intellectual development through the proper use of one's brain is essential, highlighting the importance of continuous intellectual practice. He also pointed out the ample career opportunities available for students in both domestic and international companies, urging them to focus on acquiring programming skills.
He added, “You need to cultivate the habit of thinking, as it is through problems that doors to opportunities open.”
The seminar was chaired by Syed Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Chairperson of the CSE Department at ISU. Special guests included Treasurer Professor HTM Kader Newaz, Department Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Nurul Huda, and ISU Registrar Faizullah Koushik. Teachers, administrative staff, and students also attended the event.
